How to make a paratrooper for a valk/vendetta

So as promised a quick tutorial. What you need for this is a metal coat hanger (although metal piping or rod will do too), glue (I used the gw superglue), a saw/good knife and a guardsman (or if you have a valkyrie/vendetta one of the gunners is perfect).

Magnetising a rhino/razorback without magnets AND only using 1 Kit!

Top tip this week from me is instead of getting rhinos and razorbacks is just getting the razorbacks but building them so they could be both! Right, for people with fully planned out meched up lists this isn't gonna work probably, but for people like me, who have a footslogging/drop podding space marine army this should be useful.

So here is how I did it with my own razorback/rhino. And note that the guns are interchangeable too and that I can still paint the inside and all the details even though it is completely finished.

FIrst up, you need to assemble the basic structure following the instructions until you need to put the roof on - I left it off because I was gonna paint the inside later but you could stop here for a quick lick of paint and glue it on. Whatever suits you. Then I assembled two interchangeable gun hatches, for me I made one with a storm bolter and one without (need to be able to take off that storm bolter if running over points!).

The big hatch/gun station I actually didn't glue at all, same with the guns. They are held perfectly well if you just put them on.

In the side pictures you can see all the various way you can make it.

To wrap up here's a pic of the various sub-assemblies.

Painting Sternguard Ultramarines

Since I recently painted my sternguard I decided that I would put up a tutorial of how I did it. After having assembled the models, I painted by following the next steps.

I started by undercoating the whole squad chaos black and then proceeded to paint all the armour plates mordian blue.

I then painted all the parts destined to be white dheneb stone, (i.e. shoulder pads, wings, scrolls, skulls, etc.) followed by a drybrush of skullwhite.

Then I painted all the armour plates ultramarines blue over the mordian blue, leaving the darker shade visible. All the recesses were washed Badab black.

The next step was to wash the wings on the armour with blue ink, and then give them a final drybrush of skull white. The parts which were going to be gold and strap on the gun were painted scorched brown. The metal gun parts were painted boltgun metal.

After that had dried, I painted the final skull white highlight on the wings, painted in the casing and strap on the boltgun merchrite red. I also made the lenses red. Penultimately I painted the Imperial eagle, shining gold as well as all the other gold parts.

Finally I painted in the gem on the wings on the shoulder pad and blended in a white dot added to the top. I washed all the gold parts with badab black and touched up on everything and made sure that there were no splodges of paint in the wrong places.

This left me with a decent model that only needed to have its base painted and given some flock. Pictures of the whole squad coming up.

Terrain:Ork Boyz hut-Part1

Deciding that Paul's Ork army needed some terrain, and because we wanted something orky, we decided to scratch build a boys hut. This is what we used:
1. Some foamboard (bought from rymans)
2. Some PVA glue
3. Some water
4. Some old newspaper
5. Tape (Scotch will do)

I started off by marking out wall and floor dimensions on the foamboard, and then cut it out (not very neatly-BUT to my surprise this did not show when I finished the paper mache)

Next I completed the painful process of gluing the construction together. This left something that looked like a piece of junk!

The next stage was to create a special paper mache. I found this technique on ColCorbane's Corbania Prime. It is a one part PVA glue and two part water mix, that formed a milky kind of solution. This would make the paint set better as I had used Scotch to stick the huts parts together and also to fill any gaps.

For reference: Dimensions: 6" long, 5" wide and 3" tall.

Stay tuned for part 2: painting (follow link)
