Funeral March - Game 3

Coming into Game 3 I'm surprised to be matched against Paul with his new Orks and a list I gave him  some advice on (thought that burnas with killsaws would be a good inclusion).

Hq1: Badrukk
Hq2: Weird boy Ml 2
Elites1: Burna Boys 3 flamers, 2x killsaws
Troops1: Boys, rokki launcher
Troops2: Boys, rokkit launcher
Flash gitz
Dedicated transports:
Trukk extra armour rokkit
Trukk rokkit
Trukk big shoota
Morkanaut

Mission we get is relic. We decide to count the bastion as a 2 floor ruin that can be accessed from all sides with a difficult terrain roll of 3+ (if in btb). I get to pick sides, but Paul deploys and goes first. Warlord trait gives me the special jet pack move... Night is on turn 1.

My kroot are in outflank, crisis suits in deep strike, one squad of fire warriors in reserve.

Turn 1 everything comes forward. Flash gits and morkanaut unload into my poorly positioned broadsides killing one and wounding the commander. Thankfully I pass morale.

Tactical squad, plasma, combi-plasma, multi-melta, rhino
Tactical squad, plasma, combi-plasma, multi-melta, rhino
5 scouts, snipers, camo cloaks

Stormtalon with lascannon
Thundefire
White scars:
Chapter master, bike, shield eternal, burning blade, articifier
5 bikers 2x grav-guns

 Orks:

Wazdakka
War boss, eavy armour, big choppa
5 bikers
30 boys, 3 rokkit launchers, nob power klaw
Gretchin

10 lootas
10 lootas
3 deffkoptas
Battlewagon, zapp gun, dethrolla
Battlewagon, zapp gun, dethrolla

Purge the alien, dawn of war. We placed terrain using the rule book method, hence why it looks so retarded. Paul had first turn, an deployed the battlewagons full of lootas and the nob truck on the skyshield. Bikes went into hiding with wax dakka behind the fort, deffkoptas central and gretchin in a small ruin on my left flank. The mob of 30 orks was left in reserve.

In response I set up my thundefire as far away from the lootas as possible with good line of sight on top of a tower (bottom left). Scouts went into a fortified ruin behind the aegis with the quad gun, bikes were central to attract attention and because I couldn't hide both them and the rhinos in the central ruin.

For psychic powers I got flame breath and invisibility. Warlord trait was -1 to enemy reserves. Can't remember what Paul got.

Game 1: Big Gunz, Vanguard Strike  one objective behind the building in my dz, one on the roof of the hunker next to shadowsun, one under the skyshield.

Doubles tournament: torks

Another tournament has come and gone. This report is going to be a very short one, because basically all that there is to be learnt is that I have a very hard time squaring up to Daemons. I was in a team with Ilya and this is the list we settled on after a lot of discussion and beating Paul's daemons in a 2500 point practice match. Paul was also present, playing solo and he placed 7th out of 14.

Torks:

This tournament used the allies template so one player was the captain with the warlord and the other the ally. All rules of allies applied.

1250 pts Orks vs IG practice match

Happy New and Merry Christmas to everyone. I have a few posts in the works and this is the first one of this year. It's a batrep that was in preparation for Winter Assault (tournament report later).

Mission: Purge the Alien, Deployment: pitched battle (really ought to learn the deployment names by now!!!)

My list was (I changed it after this match for the tournament):

Primaris Psyker (who got some psychic shriek)

Veterans 3x meltagun, demolitions, chimera
Veterans 3x plasmagun, grenadiers, power sword, chimera
20 man blob 2 autocannons, commissar
Platoon command squad with 2x grenade launcher

Vendetta

Leman Russ Executioner
Leman Russ Eradicator

Aegis with Quad gun

The Orks:

Warboss

20 boys with shootas and 2 big shootas, power klaw (Santa Klaws, no less), battlewagon with dethrolla
20 boys with sluggas and 2 big shootas, power klaw, battlewagon with dethrolla

3 bikers
3 bikers
2 dakkajets (yes that's 4 fast attack he corrected this for the tournament)

Big gunz, with the standard option I think and a few grots

Can't remember warlord traits. Buildings were deployed as usual and we ended up with what you can see in the pictures.

Ilya got turn 1, and we got night. He moves everything forwards trying to hide his army.

Guard push forwards in return and almost get first blood, however one biker remains after the dust settles

Turn 2

3000pt Doubles Tournament Report: Call to Arms

On Sunday, Paul, Ilya and I all went to a 3000 point doubles tournament. You were allowed to go on your own and Paul and I went as a team with Blood Angels and Imperial Guard and Ilya was on his own with Orks. It wasn't going to be a big tournament with 11 players signed up originally but there were 8 of us altogether on the day.

1750 Orks vs Chaos Space Marines Proxy Madness

Mission: Emperor's will, Deployment: Diagonal

Paul can't be bothered to do this batrep so from now on it'll be from me as far as I remember (Dimitry):

Coach-wars continue as not all the orks fit onto the table so the reserve pile mounts up.

Ilya's list is several 30 man squads of orks each with a power klaw nob and three rokkit launchers. The terminators are nobs I think.

On Paul's side there's:

Typhus

2x Hellbrute with multi-melta and powerfist

2x 5 man plague marine squad with 2x meltagun
2x 5 man plague marine squad with 2x plasmagun
Plague Zombies x16 (proxied as guardsmen)

2x Maulerfiend (flying stands)
Defiler (drop pod)

n.b. for this battle each paint counted as an ork.

Paul's recently renovated dreadnought strides into battle (as a hellbrute)

1750pts Imperial Guard vs Battlewagon Orks - the Scouring

Apologies as pics somehow seem to be missing/not in the right order... Don't know why. Anyway, so it seems that we have now progressed to bed wars... Don't ask why! (lol) I used the same list as last time, which can be found here.

Ilya was running orks.

Wazdakka
A few bikers
2x 22 (yes I know they don't fit in a battlewagon but he was being very persausive and by the time Paul came and told me that transport cap is only 20 we were halfway through the game) boyz with rokkits in there as well as some klaws
21 orks with rokkits and a klaw or two
3 dedicated transport battlewagons
1 heavy support battlewagon
(all proxied bar 1, have same gear)
2x dakkajet (stormraven stand and empty flying base)

Mission was scouring with the diagonal deployment (how do people mark this by the way??)

Terrain placement involved me setting up a nice defensive perimeter in one corner with the rest of the field being pretty open. I also managed to disrupt some of Ilya's side. However he got his revenge by placing some barricades in the bunker that was meant to be occupied by my blob, making things quite annoying simply in terms of placing models for me.

Objectives: Most were placed towards my side which was good for me. We unveil them and I get 4, 2 and 2, with a one in the small bunker nearby and a 3 in the centre. Ilya's hidden objective is a 3. Things look good for me :)

As I said pictures are missing but basically Ilya deploys first and goes first. Battlewagons bunch up in the middle and bikes zoom from behind them behind the small bunker and alunch an assault on my plasmavet's chimera. Gretchin stay behind on objective. Chimera dies, veterans spill out. Blob takes a few casualties. He has first blood

I retaliate and kill wazdakka and all the boys with some focussed fire and do some minor damage to 2 of the battlewagons (the ones with the boys). Here I'm hoping to get them down in the centre to stop any nasty charges from coming at me, while shooting a few blasts at them while they bunch up as they come out of their transports.

Turn 2

He then continues to push up, killing the executioner with a dethroller attack. A few guardsmen die in the blob and the trucks generally move forwards. Also combined rokkit launcher firepower destroys the vanquisher cannon.

My two vendettas arrive and I really start to do some damage to the battlewagons (it helps shooting back armour too. Boys spill out and I manage to rout one squad and kill many orks in another squad.
My backfield shifts around a bit too

Tournament Report: Offence 6th

Warning: Long post lol despite saying it's not too detailed... :)

So I've finally decided to share the tournament results with you guys... Won't be too detailed but will cover all 3 of us to an extent hopefully. It was to be 3 rounds 1500 pts... Round 1 missions 1/2 from the rulebook (on a d3), round 2 missions 3/4 and round 3 missions 5/6. Mysterious objectives and terrain were meant to be in play but we generally forgot/ignored that ...

My army for the tournament had to be changed a bit as counting up my army just in case before it, I realised that the excel spreadsheet which I use, I had been using had a slight mistake (!!!) and I was 10 points over, hence the slight change in my list:

Company Command Squad with 2x plasmagun, medic

Veteran Squad with 3x plasmagun, grenadiers, power sword, chimera with multi-laser and heavy flamer
Veteran Squad with 3x meltagun, demolitions, chimera with multi-laser and heavy flamer

Platoon Command Squad with 3x flamer, power sword and plasma pistol
Infantry Squad Squad with grenade launcher and autocannon and commissar with power swrod and plasma pistol
Infantry Squad Squad with grenade launcher and autocannon
Infantry Squad Squad with grenade launcher and autocannon

Vendetta (had a hard choice between this or a hellhound or an aegis defence line)

Leman Russ Vanquisher with heavy flamer
Leman Russ Executioner with heavy bolter and plasma cannon sponsons
Leman Russ Eradicator with heavy flamer

Looking around before the match after I had set up my army on a tray (2 actually) that was (were?) given to me, I found that there were some interesting armies in sight. 3/4 grey knights, 4/5 space marines (various), no imperial guard apart from me, no dark eldar, 2 tyranids, 2 orks (1 Ilya), 2 Sisters of battle (1 with gk allies, one with guard), 2 chaos space marines (1 with daemon allies), a chaos daemons player, a tau player (with some forgeworld) and an eldar player (with just grav-tanks - forgeworld I think). Not sure if that was everyone but that was roughly it, there were roughly 14 tables so you can do the maths...

Round 1 I was paired up against grey knights, so I was a little scared, but I thought what the heck at least I get to see what they're all about. He had a stormraven, a dreadknight, 15 purifiers/interceptors (? troops anyway), a dreadnought with multi-melta, 5 grey knight terminators, a terminator librarian with some powers and a sprinkling of psycannons and maybe a flamer thing.

Mission we rolled for was objectives and we got 3 of them... deployment was pitched battle. Having determined the sides we placed objectives (He got first turn and decided to go first or maybe i was first but in any case he had first turn). One objective ended up in the open and 2 in opposite corners. Night fight didn't happen. His librarian + 10 troops + dreadnought went in the stormraven which he started on the table as he said he was scout moving + starting in skimmer mode (which you're not allowed but he was so confident about it I let it go at the time). His termies went central for the objective and a small purifier squad sat in a building on his side with their objective.

I deploy my blob in my building with the objective, the static ccs behind it to give orders and the executioner to the side to help out. The rest of my force (all meched up) presents a wall of A14 or gets cover saves on the other side of my deployment zone. Vendetta and pcs with flamers went in reserve. Plan: Get first blood, hope to hold home obj., drive up to middle obj and then contest/capture his objective if necessary.

Basically turn one he flew up and deposited his guys and shot me up a little, mainly knocking off the turret of the executioner. I responded driving up on the right and using first rank fire second rank fire on the blob to get first blood, take out his poorly placed librarian and kill about half the purifiers that were with him. (Btw when he saw how many dice I had to roll he suggested using an app he had on his ipad to roll all 60 or of them and it was actually quite useful allowing us to resolve the number of dead without any dice rolling at all) Also my executioner, unable to shoot next turn and with it's turret blown off decided to ram the dreadnought without much success, however in the centre I killed a terminator or two from long range shooting and did a little damage to the razorback.

It boiled down to me managing to kill his dreadknight and termies in the centre (but not before damage had been done) and taking out his remaining purifiers on the left while when the dread charged the blob in combat I just kept using my commissar's leadership and taking off 1-3 guys a turn. I got so engrossed with doing so well that I even forgot to bring on my reserves until turn 5... (facepalm) In the end my veterans in the middle managed to get to the objective on turn 6 after some back and forth running and I secured victory. I had first blood, slay the warlord and 2 objectives worth 3 points, while he had one objective slay the warlord and linebreaker, giving me and 8-5 win, however the difference in the score on vps wasnt enough to give me extra points in additional points to my 15.

Oh and btw in this tourny you could give your opponent a sportsmanship score of 1-3 (with 3 being best) but you could only give each number once (a bit of a silly system). In any case I gave my first opponent 3 and he gave me 3 too.

Round 2

Going into round 2 I was quite happy but I knew it was going to get tougher now that I was going to go up against someone who had also won their first game. At this point Ilya had beaten another ork player and Paul had lost to a chaos + daemons army.

At first I was matched up against Paul, but then they reset the system and changed some stuff around...

So I was matched up against sisters of battle and was a little worried. He had 2 exorcists, 3 squads of sisters with meltas in rhinos, a squad of dominions (?) in rhino, Coteaz, Celestine, 3 squads of acolytes with some sword thing and storm shield (perhaps some with rhinos), a storm raven, and some squads with loads of heavy bolters.

1500pts IG vs Orks: The Emperor's Will

This was the last practice match before the tournament. Mission: The emperor's will (not sure if that's the correct name but 1 obj each) and deployment was the diagonal one.

Lists:

IG: Same as last time and time before

Orks: Ilya was trying out nob bikers but also was looking at how an ork army with max/nearly max troops played out, for the tournament he used what he learned in this match extensively. As far as I can remember:

Gazghskull
Wazdakka Gutsmek

26? Boys and perhaps a nob with power klaw
10 nobz with assorted weapons
Quite a few normal bikers (about 10) (proxied, sorry)
3 4 Nob Bikers
20 shoota boys with 2 big shootas or smthg

A wartrukk and I think that's it really...

We pre-agreed the terrain setup to save time and because we thought that it would be pre-setup at the tournament. Again no mystery objectives/terrain... Ilya setup first hiding his 20 shoota boyz in the building, along with (to my turn 1 surprise the load of bikers - I didn't notice them). The trukk filled with nobs and Ghaz hid behind a piece of terrain and the orks spread out in a line (to reduce the effects of blasts, although you never know with Ilya's logic, sometimes it's more random than Paul's)

My plan was to hold at all costs my home objective, and for that I knew I would require more or less my whole army to batter away nobs, ghaz and whatever else would be thrown at me and then to send a squad of veterans to capture/contest Ilya's. I didn't know which way the Orks in the centre would go so put my heavy tanks on two flanks, although the Executioner went further away from Ghaz's trukk. My chimeras tried to find some cover behind either the central ruin or another tank and my 2 front AV14 Russes were out on the left in the open, giving me a nice spread of firepower and creating overall quite a nice castle, so the blob deployed right on the objective in the midst of all this. Vendetta went in reserve, for the first time without it's payload of the flamer platoon command squad, which along with the company command squad hid behind the tanks close to the blob to give some orders. As usual first blood would be vital.

I then failed to seize and perhaps this was a good thing for me...

Another orky building

I know I promised a lot more action on this blog but have really been bogged down doing other things. One of these is thinking how much my army will need to change now that 6th ed is really happening.

Apocalypse batrep: Imperium and Orks vs Blood Angels and Nids

On Friday, we had another apocalypse match - this time I was with the ork player bringing my space marines and guard, sporting my trio of leman russ', a vindicator and the usual stuff. Unfortunately he didn't bring his squiggoth :( so there was a big dent in our offensive capabilities.

Mission was the standard apocalypse one (6 objectives), with some twists made up by yours truly. Each HQ choice that died, was left on the field and became an extra objective. Also one team member was the overall force commander and they got to secretly nominate one of their HQ's who would have a special ability. On the tyranid/blood angel side it was d3 poisoned ap5 blasts which could be shot in the line of sight of their leader (who we later found out to be Dante). On our team it was booby-trapping d3 building which could be scheduled in advance, one of which could be remotely detonated if in the los of our force commander (the weirdboy).

I had an evil plan so we bid thirty minutes for deployment, making sure that we went second. After a little persuading our strategic assets were careful planning and flank march. My thinking was to reserve our army and flank in turn 1 with a devastating alpha strike. However as they deployed, our enemies revealed minefields (the black dice) which did some damage to our plans as my ally was rather afraid of moving his forces through them (facepalm).

Because of this new development, and also as I had lost a little faith in our original plan, I deployed a lot more stuff than I originally intended to.

Orky emplacement - done

I've finished painting it and the only thing I might change is the little squig-thing on the right which I'll probs paint over white and then try glazing it an interesting colour maybe purple or orange or something. To be honest the pictures don't really do it justice but its my phone camera so there's not much I can do to improve that.

1 June 2012

More progress

I've finished off the emplacement so it's definitely off to spraying now. I added a few more bits of debris here and there, added rivets to the flagpole/banner, some more orky embellishments, tidied up the top and tried to sculpt a sort of barrel which didn't quite turn out so good.

Orky emplacement wip part 1

So I'm back from the dead and actually I have been working on this little by little for some time now. Originally it was meant to be a waaagh banner but the 2mm thick plasticard I had planned to use for the supports and base is pain to cut, let alone score.
