So Chiswick warGaming club has finally been properly started at the following address:
18 Stamford Brook Avenue, (London - obviously)
Here's the link to the fb page. So anyone planning to go there? I don't have my army with me yet, but am planning on getting it flown over hopefully by this weekend and I may be able to get some games in between exams since I'm on study leave.
Update: new fb page https://www.facebook.com/ChiswickWargamingClub?ref=stream&hc_location=stream
Just thought I'd share this as I realised I haven't yet. While the site that's developed it is fully in Russian, the actual army builder is 100% in english. It's great, quick and even has a few options for printing/sending your lists. It does have the occasional glitch or mistake but other than that it's great! It's also recently had a massive overhaul and has all the latest army rules including the new tau.
- having all the psychic powers from all the races to choose from
- Being able to randomly generate psychic powers from the rulebook
- Having the mastery levels of all the psykers in the game
- Keeping track of psykers and which powers they have
- And even being able to take a photo of your psyker and use that to remind you which psyker has which powers
After seeing all this I was extremely excited, as are you probably, so I decided to have a look at the price. And then my jaw dropped... £7.99 for this !?!?!? Seriously WTF GW?
So maybe it's not such a great thing after all, and added to the price is that apparently (according to a reviewer) they don't have any/some of the codex powers... which is a big minus. Perhaps I won't be getting this one after all...
I tried something rather interesting yesterday (although when you'll be seeing this it will have happened AGES ago). I saw a tutorial on BOLS and I watched it. It is painting the gw style grey knight blue power sword effect. Here it is for you to watch.
Now, I don't own an airbrush, but I really like the effect. So I tried painting the same thing using the same guidelines but with a brush. The thing is though, it didn't work. In real life it looks really strange in the pictures it doesn't look as bad but still pretty strange. Hmm... I guess anything's better than the silver their swords were painted before. I may have to get myself an airbrush now.... ;) (lol jks, but I may see and do some researching). Note, these guys aren't painted yet.
As always click for bigger pics, and actually looking at the pics again it doesn't look too bad on the lord commissar, but still :), an airbrush will be nice in terms of time saving although I have heard that there are a lot of problems that go with them.
If you want to try something like this with a paintbrush like me (I personally don't see why you would but just in case), just apply the same colours as in the tutorial above. Only difference was that I did in the opposite order. So first a mix of blue and black 1:1 (I used ultramarine blue and chaos black), then leaving the other colour showing pure ultramarine blue, then ice blue leaving some ultra showing and then two layers of watered down skull white leaving some ice blue showing.
Everything that was going to be painted has been painted and the voting is up. So head over to John's blog (AND VOTE FOR ME ;) ). Follow the linky here, there are some great paintjobs up and I know who I'm voting for...
I have been busy researching and building the first of my valkyries. Pretty much everything has been magnetised and I'm just back from spraying it. Now today I have to build the vendetta and hopefully get some paint on at least one of these.
I know I haven't posted lately, but I've been extremely busy, and it looks like I will be for a few weeks yet. Nevertheless I have done some stuff - unfortunately for you guys I am not going to post about it yet.
So as you have probably guessed by now this is a quickie about rough riders. Right, I haven't had much success with them, but seeing as I only play-tested them once in a weird friendly game, I probably need to try them out more.
I REALLY like the idea of awesome cavalry in the 40K universe, but as it has already become apparent to me, rough riders, even on their first charge are not good. They pretty much lost to a scout squad when I played (squad of 5 vs scout + sergeant, they killed both and had only one guy remaining :/).
I am thinking that possibly they could be used in a similar way to SM bikers (need to check if they can take melta).
SO thinking of these things I did some researching on the net. I did not find many tutorials that were on still working webpages, and out of those that I found only one could be called OFFICIALLY AWESOME! And that is of course at dark future games, and here is the link.
Just giving a shout out for Kiski's blog, I don't understand much Spanish but his scratch-building is simply amazing. I have been lurking around it for a little while now ;). At the moment he is building a reaver titan, and it is so AWESOME that there are no other words for it. So go check his blog out!
Having found Fritz's matrix chart online, I put it to use on my thought up force. You can see it below. In my opinion my list turned out pretty nicely. What do you guys think. And if you haven't already voted on the snipers poll please do.
Since I have begun playing some Apocalypse matches, I have decided to try and make a Titan. I mean at least one if I am successful as 300 pounds is a bit over the top I think. I will start with a warhound and am already gathering supplies and plans. I really like LackOfbettername's warhound and have found the exact plans he used to build his amazing warhound. Also, the apocalypse match next week gives me the perfect excuse to make or at least start making one. Links and pictures below.
